It's a fact that we are all energy beings and in order to enjoy the greatest happiness in life we must understand how our energy systems work.  Below is a description of each of the seven chakras, the characteristics they are associated with and a meditation exercise that is guaranteed to put them in  balance, release any blockages and give you a better understanding of your own unique energy system, which will give you more success in life.
Chakra Balancing Meditations Produce Amazing Results:

     The human chakra system is a subtle energy system comprised of seven disc-shaped metaphysical energy transformers that are located along the human spine and up into the head.  Each chakra transforms and emits energy in its own way, collecting and sensing the complete range of energy entering a person's personal energy field called their aura.  The chakras act like filters for your body's energy, continually processing and redistributing influxed energy.
The chakra system then radiates that energy back out of the body thus determining the health of your own energy field.  Blockages and disruptions that occur in a chakra system are directly related to how well each chakra is functioning and cause relative emotional pain and general unwellness.  A thorough inward examination through meditation can be very enlightening as to the nature of energy blockages based on the traits in which each particular chakra is associated.  Chakra balancing and clearing is very important for those in tune with the constant ebb and flow of metaphysical energy that comprise our universe. A healthy, balanced chakra system causes you to put forth your own best unique energy, giving you a greater sense of well-being and, in essence, letting you get the most out of life.  All of your chakras must be open and in balance if you are to experience wholeness and unconditional joy.  It is important to clear and balance each chakra, one at a time, covering the range of emitted energies from the basic instincts inherent in the root chakra to your spiritual connection associated with the crown chakra.  We will utilize the powerful energy form known as kundalini energy, which resides dormant at the base of the spine near the root chakra.  Through meditation we will encourage pure kundalini energy to rise through the spine and into the head clearing and balancing each individual chakra along the way.  The qualities of each chakra will be intensified by the touch of kundalini until the energy reaches the crown chakra where you will begin to feel fully integrated with absolute truth, total reality, and a more complete knowledge of your "higher" self.  Before beginning the kundalini meditation for chakra balancing, we must first get into a meditative state.  Start by finding a peaceful, quiet environment either indoors or out in nature and assume a meditative posture with your back straight and begin to notice your surroundings using all five of your senses.  When you feel you are immersed in the present and are ready to begin, start by lightly closing your eyes and begin to notice your breathing.  Take several long, full, slow breaths allowing for no separation between inhales and exhales. 

Root Chakra Balancing:  After several minutes of this deep breathing and when you feel relaxed begin by turning your attention to the base of your spine, where your root chakra and your kundalini energy are located.  Imagine your root chakra as a vibrant red disc swirling freely at the base of your spine as you continue to breathe long and slow.  Now visualize the energy of this vibrant red disc begin to grow, making it gleem brighter and brighter.  You may start to experience a warming sensation in the base of your spine signifying that the kundalini energy has been activated and is beginning to rise.  Continue to visualize this bright red disc growing in energy and envision your strong connection to Mother Earth.  After a few minutes of this visualization release the root chakra from your attention and begin to refocus on your breathing. 

Sacral Chakra Balancing:
  After about another minute begin to draw your attention to your sacral chakra located in your lower abdomen below your navel.  Imagine this chakra as a vibrant orange disc that is growing ever brighter as you feel the kundalini begin to rise into it.  Continue visualizing the growing intensity of this deep orange disc as you start to manifest feelings of sexual health and creativity.  Hold this orange ball of energy in your mind's eye for a few minutes and then release it from your attention and refocus on your breath. 

Solar Plexus Chakra Balancing:
  After another minute of breath watching it is time to shift your focus to your solar plexus chakra, located just below your ribcage.  Visualize this chakra growing brighter and brighter as the kundalini energy rises into it making it radiate a brilliant shade of yellow enticing feelings of pure contentment and fluidity.  After few minutes let go of your focus on the solar plexus chakra and once again return your focus on your breathing. 

Heart Chakra Balancing:
  You are now ready to experience the heart chakra located across the center of your chest.  Slowly bring your attention to this emerald green disc and imagine the kundalini energy rising up to fill it full, bringing on loving feelings of compassion and healing.  Be there with your heart chakra for a few minutes visualizing its growing intensity and luster.  When you feel the unconditional love for yourself and others that this chakra brings about, release it from your focus and return to your breathing. 

Throat Chakra Balancing:
  After another minute of breathing it's time to energize the sparkling blue chakra located at your wind pipe and called the throat chakra.  As the kundalini energy rises into the throat chakra you will begin feeling strong sensations of courage as you understand that the activation of this chakra signifies your ability to communicate effectively and courageously in your own unique voice without diminishing anyone elses.  Rejoice in this fact and continue visualizing the increasing energy and brilliance of this chakra.  After a few more minutes release this chakra from your attention and bring your focus back to your breathing. 

Third Eye Chakra Balancing:
  Now begin to turn your attention to the the third eye chakra located between your eyes on your forehead.  Imagine this chakra spinning freely as a deep shade of indigo. As the kundalini energy rises into the third eye chakra you begin to feel an overwhelming sensation of inner peace as you become aware that this chakra signifies the unification of you in all of your different roles.  The activation of this chakra also gives you complete mental clarity and the undeniable intuition that you are unified with the universe.  Visualize this chakra increasing in strength and energy for a few minutes and then release it and bring your attention back to your breathing. 

Crown Chakra Balancing:
  Now it is time to visualize and bask in the glow of the kundalini energy reaching its final destination in the violet colored crown chakra.  At this point the crown chakra balances with the root chakra to integrate the entire chakra system giving you the highest level of spiritual perfection.  Wholeness is automatically achieved by this integration and you are able to transcend fear and achieve the enlightenment created by a constant connection to the great spirit of the universe.  Continue mindful breathing for as long as you would like to exude these feelings.

NOTE:  The regular practice of chakra balancing meditations using kundalini energy and other methods must be practiced daily in order to achieve long-lasting results.  Through the identification and release of harmful energy blockages in your personal energy field you will be able to transmit the best possible energy to others giving you true happiness and the connection with the world you desire.
